What is TBLI?

Over the years, we have received many testimonials and compliments by colleagues who have tried to replicate TBLI, but often missing the secrete sauce. I am also asked “what sets TBLI CONFERENCE apart from the rest?”. The testimonials and replications are always encouraging,  to continue doing the educational outreach, we have been doing for nearly 18 years.

A few weeks ago we held TBLI CONFERENCE@BOOTH/KELLOGG, in Chicago and I was thoroughly happy with the event. Yesterday, one of the participants sent a beautiful email to our team thanking them for organising the event. It was clear that this participant understood what we do,  why we do it, and how the secret sauce works that sets TBLI apart from the rest.

Lester Brown to Retire.

I received the announcement that the Earth Policy Institute plans to cease operations. Very sad, but understandable. The founder, Lester Brown will retire in June 2015. Lester was a hero of mine and a great champion of bringing sense to an economic system that was self-destructive. His statistical analysis were essential to understanding the destructive forces at play as well as the clear profitable solutions that was being offered. Lester Brown surely comes to mind when one reads Man in the Arena by Theodore Roosevelt.

“It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. After playing an important role in creating a global sustainable finance movement for the past 16 years with 24 TBLI CONFERENCES, we are excited to see a groundswell of interest in ESG and Impact Investment around the globe, coming from such diverse groups as institutional investors, family offices, HNW, social entrepreneurs and academia.  To help advance the discussion and in line with our educational mission, we are scaling up our activities in ESG and Impact Investing to reach a wider audience – in the financial sector and beyond. In the coming years,
we plan to do the following:
  1. Improve the global outreach of TBLI CONFERENCES – by offering additional events, with increased content on emerging economies.
  2. Broaden the thematic scope of TBLI CONFERENCES by including special sessions on topics of regional and common interest.
  3. Publish the content of TBLI CONFERENCE workshops and plenaries via documentation and white-papers developed in cooperation with business schools,  and  making that content publicly available;
  4. Produce a Spotlight Video Series of 60-80 interviews with thought leaders and practitioners at TBLI CONFERENCE to be distributed online. The aim is to educate the investment community and the public, and to raise awareness on sustainable finance.
  5. Support the integration of sustainable finance into the curricula for business school students and executive education. We are partnering with selected business schools in Europe, Asia and the US.
To assist us in funding these efforts, we have created the TBLI Foundation.  TBLI Foundation is partnering with SharedImpact to receive grants and donations in a tax-efficient manner, as a non-profit entity (501(c)(3)) for donors in the United States, a registered charity for donors in the UK, a registered charity for donors in Hong Kong, and a charitable vehicle for The Netherlands.

TBLI Milestone 23x

Who would have thought that when I started TBLI CONFERENCE, over 15 years ago, that we would be celebrating our 23 event. Actually, 24, if you count the time we organized an event for the EU. It has been an exciting ride and the best part of the journey is yet to come. I am really looking forward to greeting you in Zurich Nov. 14-15, 2013. I think it is our best event until now.

TBLI Roadshow:

Had extremely busy 2 weeks. Met with various thought leaders and potential sponsors in NY, then spoke at SRI in Rockies (Colorado Springs), German Family Forum (Zurich), International Asset Owners Summity (Hong Kong). Met fantastic people. Most memorable part was how everyone knew TBLI and reminded me of our great reputation. That was great to hear.

THAI Demonstrations:

Took a few days of R&R in Bangkok, before returning to Zurich for TBLI CONFERENCE EUROPE New peaceful demonstrations in Bangkok against the govt and the fact that Thaksin Shinawatra is running things behind the scene. A new reconciliation law to allow Thaksin to come back is being contested and supported by large crowds. In typical style, the Thai know how to have a good time even while demonstrating.

Warsaw Climate Change Conference – November 2013

Caring for Climate, the world’s largest initiative for business leadership on climate change, will organize the first annual Caring for Climate Business Forum: Innovation, Ambition, Collaboration on 19-20 November 2013 in Warsaw, Poland.
